I always flick through the newspaper supplements and look for human interest stories and recipes. Flicking through the Sunday Telegraph (01.03.09) seven supplement I caught an article about Donny Osmond. Actually, it wasn't Donny Osmond. I thought it was Donny, but then I looked again and it was Jimmy. Never mind. I probably would have read it anyway. The article was about Donny's, no Jimmy's perfect Sunday.
Church ranked pretty high....obviously, but then it went on about no video games, children, long walks and family dinners and specifically Mrs Osmond's "opulent chicken" dish.
Of course that aroused my curiosity. So what does Mrs Jimmy Osmond make for Sunday lunch? Jimmy has travelled the world and yet he still looks forward to his wife's chicken dish. He says, "It's yummy ...t he chicken in this sauce, there's a bit of cheese in there, and kind of crunchy bits..."
Maybe she has a few gourmet cooking classes under her belt to create "opulent chicken" with sauce, cheese and crunchy bits. Sounds good to me.
So what is this opulent chicken recipe? I then google it, of course. The first recipe is from Gourmet magazine 1998 ( a US foodie mag of which I am a subscriber) Hmmmm... the recipe sounds nice, mushrooms, artichoke hearts. I look a bit further and there's a lovely blog with pictures of this "opulent chicken" dish. Looks very nice, though I notice no cheese or crunchy bits.
Could there be another recipe out there with the same name?
I look a bit further and I stumble upon another family blog with the same named recipe including both cheese and stuffing. Could this be it? A further website, recipe zaar provides a similar recipe with the same name.
However, I couldn't help but notice that there was quite a few cans of cream of chicken soup in this recipe. Actually, three or four cans of cream of chicken soup and either stuffing or Ritz crackers as a topping.
Gosh.I have made huge efforts to avoid cooking with cans of soup, apart from a dish or two, and yet, one of the Osmonds favourite meals seems to be with both cream of chicken soup and ritz crackers.
If Jimmy Osmond is looking forward to this dinner every Sunday ... I gotta try it.

I'm trying to be open minded about this myself. I have yet to try it. However, when I do I'll report back.

I have made this for my family many, many, many times. THEY LOVE IT!!!! Wherever I have taken it or parties that I have served it at people always want the recipe. I do make extra sauce, though.
