It was all go in the Tawny household last Wednesday. K had a cricket match and had to be there at 6.00pm. Not a problem I hear you cry! However, I don’t finish work until 5.00, so here is a breakdown of the breakneck pace of the hour between 5 and 6 last night……
5.00pm - Sign off computer, close down, send text to child minder asking her to have K ready at 5.15, shout bye to boss and run out of door.
5.05pm – Sit at roundabout wondering where all the bloody traffic has appeared from it is half term for heavens sake.
5.12pm - Sit at traffic lights still wondering why every tom, dick and harry is on the flipping road!
5.18pm – Finally arrive at childminders an find K all ready and raring to go.
5.25pm – Get home, stick pan of water onto stove to boil. Get pasta, tuna, mayonnaise, and sweetcorn out of cupboard. Send K upstairs to get changed.
5.30pm – Chuck pasta into saucepan
5.33pm – Run upstairs to change.
5.36pm – K gets kit out ready, come downstairs and swear at water that has boiled over.
5.40pm – Get bowls and spoons out of cupboard, mix tuna, mayonnaise, and sweetcorn together.
5.42pm – Drain pasta, frantically mix with aforementioned tuna, sweetcorn and mayonnaise.
5.43pm – Hand bowl to K and tell her to eat it. (Luckily its her favourite so she falls on it like she hasn’t eaten for a week)
5.54pm – Leave bowls and various detritus and run out of door, look back despairingly as kitchen looks like bomb has hit it
5.59pm – Arrive at cricket field looking like serene mummy with daughter in perfect whites, not at all like a mad rushing lunatic and then spend nearly 3 hours watching the game and manning the scoreboard, knowing full well that as every minute passes, the bits of tuna and mayonnaise and pasta are welding them selves more and more firmly to the bowls and pan.
And how was your night?
p.s K’s team lost the match, but she batted and scored 4 runs and was still in at the end, I am so proud :)
